William Brutocao Presents Artists' Rights Under VARA and CAPA and the Kent Twitchell Experience

In the concluding session to a four-part series on artist's rights presented by California Lawyers for the Arts, Bill Brutocao discussed artists' rights under Visual Arts Rights Act (VARA) and California Art Preservation Act (CAPA) in Highland Park on June 24, 2009. Mr. Brutocao also reviewed his experience representing Kent Twitchell in the ground-breaking lawsuit which resulted in one of the most significant settlements under VARA, setting precedent for future cases.

Jeffrey Sheldon discussed "Ethical Obligations of Patent Practitioners: Do you know the rules?" at the 3rd Annual Patent Law Institute presented by the Practising Law Institute, on March 24, 2009. The two-day conference was held in San Francisco and covered the practice impact of recent developments on patent prosecutors, litigators and transactional lawyers. Michael Fedrick Educates MBA Students on Intellectual Property at California Lutheran University

Michael Fedrick spoke to a Strategic Management class at the California Lutheran University's School of Business on February 2, 2009 regarding the "Competitive Advantages of Intellectual Property". The talk focused on strategic uses of intellectual property and cost-effective ways of securing intellectual property rights. Mr. Fedrick also gave this presentation during the Fall 2008 semester.

Michael Fedrick Speaks at the Twelfth Annual Washington in the West Conference

Michael Fedrick participated in a panel discussion titled "Enforcing Intellectual Property Rights in China" at the Twelfth Annual "Washington in the West" Conference on January 29, 2009. He discussed the enforcement of intellectual property rights in China and the value of such rights. The conference was presented by the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association at the Skirball Cultural Center.

The class educated entrepreneurs and business owners on a range of IP issues including how to protect intellectual property, the cost of protection, the pros and cons of working with invention promoters, and where to turn for resources.

Kristin Hiibner Speak at the
IEEE Buenaventura Engineering in Medicine and Biology

Robert Rose, a senior member of the Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEEE) and Kristin Hiibner addressed the July meeting of the Buenaventura EMBS Chapter of the IEEE, Buenaventura Section on July 30, 2008 at California Lutheran College in Thousand Oaks, CA. The presentation, "Patents: What is Hot in the Biomedical Patent Area," covered the benefits of having patents and how to avoid the drawbacks of competitor patents. The Buenaventura EMBS Chapter is one of the most active IEEE chapters and has hosted over 550 people at its monthly speaker events over the past 12 months.

The conference is sponsored by the LAIPLA and the Pepperdine University School of Law.
